In 1965, 4 Swiss resort villages as well as 8 French resort villages joined forces to create the Portes-du-Soleil; an amazing adventure shared between Champéry, Val-d’Illiez – Les Crosets, Morgins, Torgon, – Champoussin, Abondance, Avoriaz, Châtel, La Chapelle d’Abondance, Les Gets, Montriond, Morzine-Avoriaz, St Jean d’Aulps…
French-Swiss Ski Resort
The closest to Geneva and its international airport, straddling the border between France and Switzerland, between the Savoie and Valais regions, the Portes-du-Soleil is part of the Espace Mont-Blanc. The gigantic Portes-du-Soleil is a ‘ nature preserve for powder ’, in the heart of the Alps, where the natural environment remains as untouched as possible and where the skier does not cross the same slope twice during a day. The skier benefits from an incomparable offer for the beginner who wants to have fun, or the professionnel skier training on the famous Alpine Ski Worldcup slope in Avoriaz. One can experience a full discovery of the moutain.

The Portes-du-Soleil offer a unique ski experience
Ski differently at the Portes-du-Soleil: we talk about ‘ski safari’. Skiing here is not just up and down, it’s lateral; a visual, mental, even spiritual journey on skis from resort to resort, valley to valley and one country to another… The Beau-Séjour Hotel in Champery therefore becomes a perfect departure spot.
Scattered here and there, the lifts seem to blend into the rocky crags and wooded hillsides and skiers fly down pristine slopes in the heart of alpine pastures and forests, sometimes right past the front doors of centuries-old chalets.
The Portes-du-Soleil in numbers:
- 283 slopes: 27 black, 104 red, 119 blue, 33 green
- 28 lifts
- 650 km of slopes

On certain evenings during the Winter season, weather permitting, the slopes light up and skiers can extend their ski day well past sundown.*
